SNAPSHOT OF THE YEAR
JANUARY – DECEMBER 2007
 
January
Part 2 of the Fashion Course at KCP begins with BasicTailoring & Design.
 
Auditions begin for our new over-subscribed Music Industry Course together with the purchasing of industry standard software, microphones, keyboards & computers. The three month music workshop will see two groups pitching their best song to the executives of Brightside Recordings UK in the London boardroom of Sony BMG.
 
The 3 month Law Project culminates in a mock trial staged at the Young Actors Theatre, Islington in which our participants take the role of The Jury.
 
A new departure begins with our first venture into Photography. In conjunction with the Barbican Education Department, 8 young people from local schools are assisted in a 10 week course by internationally acclaimed photographer Cyril Lepetit.
 
February
8 Young people from the Fashion Workshop embark on a five weeks of  Screen Printing at the Brady Centre in Brick Lane.
 
Day trip for 15, to the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith.
 
Members of the Young Actors Theatre conduct rehearsals at KCP, for their latest performance.
 
Plans get underway for new Theatre Industry Course in conjunction with the Almeida Theatre, Islington.
 
March
The project plays host to a exhibition and award ceremony celebrating the achievements of the 10 participants of the Photography Course.
 
April
Fifteen week Theatre Industry Course in conjunction with the Young Actors Theatre and the Almeida Theatre Islington begins offering 12 young people a crash course in acting and an insight into the world of the theatre.
 
‘The Jury’ film premiere is screened at the London headquarters of  the international law firm Simmons & Simmons
 
Songs are recorded in Miloco Studios from the two groups on the Music Industry Course, ready for the boardroom presentation.
 
May
KCP host a Casting Session for MTV in which 30 of our regular project users compete for paid work as part of MTV’s international advertising campaign.
 
Two groups of young people present their one hour Live Radio Broadcast from City University, London.
 
Day trip to Thorpe Park for participants in the Music and Photography groups.
 
One to one Music Making Sessions begin as a regular Thursday slot at KCP.
 
June
Participants on the Theatre Industry Course perform their play ‘A Voice in the Crowd” on stage at the Almeida Theatre, having first seen a performance of ‘The Big White Fog’ on which their play was based.
 
July
A Theatre Make Up session is provided by Creative Faces.
Day trip to Southend, Go Karting , Dry Slope Skiing, Tobogonning and  High Ropes in Harlow Outdoor Centre kicks off our Summer Programme.
 
August
Day trips to see ‘Wicked’ at the Appollo Theatre & ‘Dying For It’ at the Almeida Theatre.
  
Ten people attend a Residential trip to Hampshire & The Islie of Wight with activities including Paintballing, Horseridiing, Waterskiing and Kayaking.
 
September
Day trip for eight Project regulars along the River Thames and to Greenwich Park.
 
October
New film project “Urban Stories’ begins, to produce a short film for entry into the London Children’s Film Festival hosted by the Barbican. Our film entry ‘Reflection’ explored the Asian, Arabic and Turkish cultures in London to be shown at a premiere screening in November.
 
November
Islington Police provide a lively workshop for 13 young people as part of our Law Industry Course.
 
‘The Music Industry’ fly-on-the-wall
documentary film had it’s premiere sceening at The Oliver Thompson Lecturer Theatre, City University with guest of honour The Mayor of Islington.
 
December
Law Course participants spend a day at Highbury Magistrates Court where they are given a tour, and observe cases in progress.
 
Fashion Industry participants visit the Clothes Show Live at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre to gain inspiration for their collection to be shown in London in 2008.
 
 
AREAS OF OUR WORK

HELP INTO EMPLOYMENT, CV’S AND CAREERS ADVICE 
Individual interview skills practice using video camera to record and review performance. Application forms, letter writing and understanding job adverts. Full support in producing CV’s including draft, presentation and final copy. We offer access to Kudos,  a careers guidance package, with help and support from our youth workers to discuss options highlighted.

INFORMAL ONE–TO-ONE COUNSELLING 
We offer confidential and informal sessions with youth workers about personal issues affecting the young people’s lives. 

HELP INTO EDUCATION / EMPLOYMENT PROJECT
In a joint scheme with Islington Boat Club,, we work with young people aged 15 – 19 who are not in work, education or training. Activities include theatre studies and acting, group work, life skills, literacy and numeracy support, computer skills and multimedia options including film making, web design & music making. 

COMPUTER FACILITIES  
Our computer room is equipped with 8 Apple Mac computers all with broadband internet access and the latest software for office and multimedia applications including web design, filmmaking & music making. KCP youth workers with IT skills are on hand to offer support and tuition to individuals and groups of up to 8. 

ART WORKSHOPS
 We have a rolling programme of three month art workshops which run for half a day per week. Groups of up to 10 young people can join, and work produced is showcased at an appropriate outside space, for instance, the Barbican Centre, with whom we regularly work, or displayed in our installation set at the front of our premises in Old Street. 

LITERACY AND NUMERACY SUPPORT 
In addition to sessions provided by KCP youth workers, we have a pool of volunteer literacy and numeracy workers who spend one hour each week working with a young person to improve their basic skills. This support can be offered on a long-term basis if required.
